Bramcote’s Bells- History Group event

The Old Church Tower has long been deconsecrated, but its links with St Michael & All Angels in the village – its successor – remain strong and binding. Its three bells were transferred to the new church when that was consecrated in 1861, but the Elizabethan bell frame is intact and well preserved, and although not visible from the ground below, you can see on our A/V unit how it worked, on days when the Tower is open.

Local historian, Val Bird, who chairs the very popular Bramcote History Group, attracted a large audience last week to a talk at St Michael’s, The Bramcote Bells, which included some rare early pictures of the building as it was before the nave was demolished. The church has six bells now and the team who regularly ring them, led by Christine Langton, encouraged aspiring ringers to give it a go. A fun and informative evening that showed how wide the interest is in the heritage on our doorstep.
