Heritage Open Days at Bramcote Old Church Tower
Step back in time and explore one of Bramcote’s most historic landmarks during Heritage Open Days.
Bramcote Old Church Tower is a Grade II listed building, standing proudly on raised ground in the heart of the Bramcote Conservation Area. All that remains of a 13th-century church, the Tower has been carefully restored and renovated thanks to support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Inside, you’ll discover memorials and plaques carved from alabaster, marble, and oolitic limestone, as well as two recently installed stained glass windows – each unique in design. Our Audio Visual display brings the Tower’s fascinating history to life with pictures, text, and videos, while our resident colony of brown long-eared bats (and the occasional pipistrelle) keeps watch from above.
The grounds are rich with history and nature. You’ll find information boards about the site’s past and its biodiversity, six 18th- and 19th-century chest tombs linked to prominent local families, and many other gravestones whose inscriptions have been recorded. The stone walls, including one in a rare herringbone pattern, and the variety of yew trees add to the character of this peaceful setting.
