Stone Seating and Information Panels

Through the Big Lottery Awards For All, Nottingham based sculptor Andrew Smith was commissioned to produce 3 stone seats with accompanying information panels. He worked with local schoolchildren, cubs and scouts as well as community groups within Bramcote to generate ideas which he then incorporated into his final designs.

The Awards For All grant was match-funded by Notts County Council and on 27th November, 2008, the three commissioned seats were installed. Under the guidance of Andrew and Jason Mordan, Senior Conservation officer for Notts CC, together with a group of Friends and 2 members of Barclays Bank, the challenging task of siting the seats in the appropriate positions was achieved successfully.

Each seat, sculptured from Ancaster stone and quarried in Lincolnshire, has a different theme-Community, History and Nature. In addition, an accompanying piece of original text written by Pat Ashworth, a local writer, has been carved into granite and forms the foot base for each seat.
